Osage Historical Flatbow

Historical Flatbows in Osage

Wood: full Osage stave.
Origin: Hungary
Minimum wood seasoning: six years.
Tip in deer horn and/or water buffalo.
Grip in twisted strip leather.

The profile of the bow uses the already tested design n. 8 used for the realization of the Victorian Flatbows with asymmetric grip and double taper of the limbs.
The profile is straight, with a slight negative curvature of the limbs and a slight hint of preload of the tip.
The result is a light and fast bow with very little vibration when the arrow is released.

Lengths: 68" and 70" depending on the draw length of the archer.
Recommended draw weight from 35 to 50lbs measured at 27".
Indicative maximum draw length: 28" 1/2 for the 68" and 30" for the 70". Each bow can have different values due to the structural differences of each stave.

The bow is made only to order and the stave from which the bow is obtained is chosen directly by the customer from those available.
Each bow will be unique and unrepeatable.

Unlike medieval bows, the neck area is thin and very narrow, in perfect symmetry between the two sides as per IFAA regulations.
Thanks to the thinness of the neck, the window effect disappears completely and no compensation is necessary. With this measure it is possible to switch from a modern Longbow to this bow without any difficulty.

Each bow has customized Tips with different shapes and sizes.
